CONCEPT OF TEACHING, NATURE AND CHARACTERISTICS OF TEACHING


Concept of teaching:


Teaching is process which takes place in the class room situations. It is more of formal and systematic processes.  I t   is a system of actions  intended  to  induce  learning . It’s special  function  is to  impart  knowledge , develop  understanding  and  skill. It  is  the  act  or  profession  of  a person  who  teaches  and  include  all  activities  of  providing  education  to  other. Teaching  is  the  mutual  relationship  or  interaction  between  the  teacher  and  the  students  which  advances  the  students  towards  the  goal . Teaching is successful if the students are able to grasp teaching learning contents fully.
Definitions of teaching:
H.C. Morrison (1934) defines teaching as :  “teaching is an intimate contact between a more mature personality and less mature one which is designed to further the education of the latter.”
B.D. Smith (1961) defines teaching as  : “Teaching is a system of actions intended to induce learning.”
N. L, Gage(1962) defines teaching as : “Teaching is a form of interpersonal influence aimed at changing the behavior potential of another person”
In the word of Albert Einstein, “The supreme art of teaching is to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge”.
Need of Teaching:
        i.            To  Giving some knowledge to the students;
      ii.            For  Passing some information to students;
    iii.            Making the students  to acquire some skill;
   iv.            Changing the attitude of the learners;
     v.            Modifying the behavior of the students;
   vi.            Giving some experiences of life

NATURE AND CHARACTERISTICS  OF  TEACHING

1.     It is selective in nature
2.     Empathetic in nature
3.     Co operative in nature
4.     Democratic in nature
5.     Progressive  in nature
6.     Provision for desirable information
7.     It is causing to learning
8.     Need an efficient planning
9.     Teaching is Organise learning
10.            Leads to emotional stability
11.            Both diagnostic and remedial
12.             Teaching  helps the child to adjust him to his environment
13.            Teaching leads to emotional  stability
14.            Provide opportunity for activity and development
15.            It  is a means for preparation
